Leonardo project

THE PROJECT:
EB03- EUROBUILDING

It was supported and funded by the European Union and aimed at implementing a partnership between Italy and Sweden in order to develop a training scheme for young people in their final stage of school education and about to enter the labour market.

The objective was to improve skills, knowledge and competences of future builders and surveyors as concerns construction materials and processes in a sustainable building development, which means learning and comparing best practices on the use of materials and technologies to reduce the environmental impact of building.

Work experiences provide a valuable means of integration between the education system and enterprises, formal and informal learning, and help students as orientation into the labour market. They improve both professional/vocational skills and educational competences, such as flexibility, coping with problems and communication skills.

For this reason our school, ITG "Secchi", has offered training schemes and work experiences to students in our area for long years, but the urge to educate European citizens and to train more competent, up-to-date and flexible workers has laid the basis for the setting up of this European partnership.

The partnership includes EFPE professional training centre, with connections to a network of enterprises in Reggio Emilia, the Province of Reggio Emilia, together with Moelledalsgymnasiet, a vocational secondary school in Malmö, and the building companies association in Malmö.

The training program started in June 2003 with the preparation for a group of 10 students of our school, selected on the basis of motivation and guaranteeing equal opportunities to girls and boys. They left for Malmö, Sweden, on September 8th 2003 and came back after a 3-week stay. The experience was carefully monitored and evaluated with Europass certification.

As the partners applied for reciprocity in the training programme, the Swedish group came to Reggio Emilia in November 2003.
