STONEHENGE
|
|||||
| Stone is the most ancient
natural building material. The earliest surviving examples of stone built
architecture, in fact, date back to six thousand years ago.
The most important standing monument of antiquity in the British Isles is Stonehenge. The monument may have been an ancient astronomical observatory. Scientific studies have shown that the positions of the stone slabs indicate the places on the horizon where the sun and moon rise and set about June 21st and December 21st. |
